About Me

Jane Watkins a fully BABCP-accredited CBT Therapist

I am Jane, a fully BABCP-accredited CBT Therapist.

I live with my beautiful Irish Red setter, Riley, left, and 2 Maine Coone cats!  We love the beach and endless countryside walks available to us currently, a move is on the horizon!  On a personal note, I am dyslexic, I was diagnosed in my 40s.  It was a revelation to me to understand I am not stupid (as school and others had labelled me), I simply learn and think a bit differently to most people. It was a revelation to me, in the best of ways.  No longer did I feel stupid, I felt empowered.  I felt like suddenly my mind made so much more sense and I knew why I find some things so difficult and also helped me recognise my strengths.

I think that this understanding is the same for anyone suddenly understanding themselves so much better, irrespective of the label.  This is my aim in therapy, to empower you to overcome the difficulties but also to celebrate the strengths and all those things you are already so good at.  Even if, at the moment, you fear you are not good at anything (it is not true, it is a fear).

I have been working in Mental Health for 2 decades! I started as a mental health Nurse in the NHS working with children and their families in CAMHS (Children and Young Peoples Services).  Services for young people was a very therapy-based environment and certainly the part I loved the most about it.  It felt a natural progression for me to specialise in therapy, which I have done, for about the last 10 years.  â€‹â€‹

I believe that I am privileged to be a therapist and share the remarkable journeys that I take with all my clients.
Coming into therapy takes bravery and strength.

In our work together we will explore the patterns of behaviour that you have formed, to be able to cope with life.
We will, together, understand where these behaviours (some helpful, some less so) have come from.
If we are not aware of where things come from and how they manifest in the current moment, how can we change things?
We will then work to develop more helpful coping strategies to enable you to live a more contented and balanced life.
I work to empower clients to live a life that is authentic for them.  What does living an authentic life mean?  It is a complex question to answer.  But in basic terms, it means living life according to what feels right for you. In line with your value system.  I think of values as being what is important to us.  For example, kindness is very important to me.
I try to be kind in how I approach my life.  However, what is also important with this value, is that you able able to have balance by being comfortable with setting boundaries with those that might take advantage of your kindness.

I use evidence-based, compassionate, meaningful, and tailored therapies in a safe therapeutic space.  I have tried to create a practice that I would be happy for my loves ones to come to.

I am down to earth, have a good sense of humour and honest with my clients.  I am not fluffy, at all!
